Len Shalanskys illustrations combine compassion
and sensitivity with excellent draftsmanship. His illustrations
of people on the street children, women, couples
express resignation of a hard, but not necessarily tragic
life. In many of these pieces, the negative space makes
as strong a statement as does the drawing itself. Len
works mostly in pen, dyes and pencil with gouache.
Born In New York City and educated at Pratt Institute
and Cooper Union School for the Arts, Len moved to Rhode
Island over 30 years ago to join the art staff of Hasbro
Industries. Over the years Len has become an established
and well recognized illustrator and designer, with a
client base of more than 20 well known publishing companies
and product firms. He has had exhibits at the Providence
Art Club, Watercolor Club, Gallery 401 and the Donovan
Gallery.
